David was always a joy to see at the Highland Games in New Hampshire and always brought out the spirit in the crowd with his humor and intensity. You will be greatly missed David.

As usual I find things out late. It's now May and I am shocked and very saddened to hear of David's passing. Man, I'll miss his spirit at Grandfather Mountain and in Virginia each year. But he's sure to follow Albannach wherever they go to brighten and rock this world. I'll cherish his autographed books all the more. Keep the faith wherever you go. Katherine

There was more to Dave than Scottish stuff, you know...
I wish you had known him when we were wee and played on the rope ladder in Kittoch Street.
I wish you had known him when we were 11 and he discovered Edgar Bloody Winter.
I wish you had known him when we were 15 and hung out at the Key.
I wish you had known him when we were 16 and he was in love with Mary Doherty.
I wish you had known him when we were 17 and went dancing at the Parochial hall every Sunday.
I wish you had known him when were 18 and obsessed with Karate.
I wish you had known him when we were 19 and went on a European tour in Archie’s ancient VW.
I wish you had known him when we were 20 and the Electrix.
I wish you had known him when he went nuts for Karen.
I wish you had known him when Kimberley was born.
I wish ye hudnae died and left us, ya big c**t.

Sometimes I even wish there was a God.

I remember quite vividly the day that I saw Mr. Ross speak at the Estes Park Highland games. Anyone sitting in that audience could tell how much he cared for Scotland. My prayers go out to everyone that knew him, we have lost a great author, a great historian, and a great human being.

David Ross performed a miracle at Grandfather Mountain. My sister went to one of his talks, to sit down. She hates history. But she found herself sitting, listening and enjoying! David Ross's account of the history of Scotland, and it wasn't just the bad jokes. She loved his history. He is a great loss to the world. I wish he could have performed a few more miracles.

I just found out today that David R. Ross has made that final great adventure. I must say that I truly feel a sense of loss and am in mourning. Though I did not personally know him, I have listened to him speak of Scotland and her history over the past several years at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. I felt a kindred spirit with him. This is such a great loss for Scotland and all of us who have any sort of tie with her. He will truly be missed. You lived your life with zest, David, I pray you have found a peace that is just as profound.

I remember the first time I heard David's bold voice at the Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina and how it sent chills up my spine. He enriched our lives with history and humor. I will treasure the brief moment I was able to shake the hand of this talented fellow author and will always remember his smile. He will be missed!
