I was totally in awe of the man the first time I saw him and heard him speak at the NC Highland Games in 2007. That's where I bought my first book by him, finished it on the way home to MS and proceeded to order all the others. He transported me back to Scotland to many of the places I had been numerous times and left me needing to visit the ones he talked about in his book "Desire Lines". My heart broke when I found out he was not with us in this world any more. My prayers go out to his family and friends. The tears are flowing and do everytime I know I will not be seeing this wonderful humanitarian again.

We will so miss David. Joseph & I have written a song about him and will sing it in his memory at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. It's on our CD that will be released there that weekend. Nothing is the same without him! David, you are missed!

As usual I find things out late. It's now May and I am shocked and very saddened to hear of David's passing. Man, I'll miss his spirit at Grandfather Mountain and in Virginia each year. But he's sure to follow Albannach wherever they go to brighten and rock this world. I'll cherish his autographed books all the more. Keep the faith wherever you go. Katherine

There was more to Dave than Scottish stuff, you know...
I wish you had known him when we were wee and played on the rope ladder in Kittoch Street.
I wish you had known him when we were 11 and he discovered Edgar Bloody Winter.
I wish you had known him when we were 15 and hung out at the Key.
I wish you had known him when we were 16 and he was in love with Mary Doherty.
I wish you had known him when we were 17 and went dancing at the Parochial hall every Sunday.
I wish you had known him when were 18 and obsessed with Karate.
I wish you had known him when we were 19 and went on a European tour in Archie’s ancient VW.
I wish you had known him when we were 20 and the Electrix.
I wish you had known him when he went nuts for Karen.
I wish you had known him when Kimberley was born.
I wish ye hudnae died and left us, ya big c**t.

Sometimes I even wish there was a God.

I remember quite vividly the day that I saw Mr. Ross speak at the Estes Park Highland games. Anyone sitting in that audience could tell how much he cared for Scotland. My prayers go out to everyone that knew him, we have lost a great author, a great historian, and a great human being.

We will miss you; you have touched many a heart with your wit and love for our beloved Scotland. You were able to bring back the pride of being a Scotsmen, through your love of history. Farwell and we will see you on the other side!
