News for next year--Gatlinburg Highland Games are to be held at Maryville College and renamed the Smokey Mtn Highland Games. ! Dates will be May 20th thru 22nd!

I just saw this also, thanks for posting it lisan. I can only guess they needed more room and easier access..... but I do see Albannach listed in the entertainment..... which will make it worth the trip!!! Mills Park is pretty, but parking is a nightmare.... I'm still pulling nettles out of my truck carpet from climbing through them when I had to park in a ditch. Glad I had 4wd, I wouldn't have gotten out otherwise..... |

I dont know much about Maryville TN the city and even less about Maryville College campus. Gin knows some of Maryville but she is currently in the Rat Kingdom in Florida and I havent had a chance to ask her about the location. Does anyone else know about cabins or lodging withing walking distance?

According to website for school it is 10 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from Townsend. I think there are several hotels at airport location.

I will miss the old one also, but I think they are trying to make this rival the big festivals like Greeneville, Grandfather and Stone Mtn. and I have heard there is a lot more room to spread out ! Wonder how well the water drains after a rain at this location?

I always thought I rained in Scotland cause of the climate, didnt realize it was due to heavy percussion affecting the atmosphere!

Maybe they have more places to duck from the rain.
No where will be as magical as Gatlinburg.
With the economy the way it is the Highland Games are struggling at best. They have to do
what they can do to stay a float.

Funny that you should use the word float.....
Actually, that little wedge in the mountains gets more rain than the outlying areas, it has something to do with the pressure going over the mountains? So hopefully Maryville (pronounced mervl for those out of the area, lol!) will not be so likely to be needing flippers and snorkles.
Townsend has some great camping areas too!
