The mangroves of Sanibel are so amazing.  Barrier islands protect the mainland from storm damage and the estuaries provide sites for maturing fish and crustaceans.  The water is usually murky due to the transitional nature of coastal wetlands: silt from the mainland mixes with the saltwater.  The resulting high nutrient load is what lead to the biological productivity of the area.

Speaking of murky water and transitional aquatic zones, how many of you know that the bull shark can move into rivers, and has been found as far north as Memphis, TN?

Well, I got to paddle through those mangroves a week later with Pat and Lizbeth.  Yes Connie, there were times I thought I heard the music.....  Just kiddin too.

They were awesome, and it was one of my best memories of my Florida trip.  It was my first time, yes, I was a Kyack virgin.. or how ever you spell that word.

Hahaha.. my first kayak was in the bay in Ocean City MD, I got tired so was floating along with my hands in the water... RIGHT SMACK into a JELLYFISH!  :%

Love the kayaking pics! Sanibel is the best....especially kayak fishing in Tarpon Bay (Ding Darling park)!
I just had an uncontrolable urge to tip over Donnie & Jamesie's kayak!! LOL

We do this once a year up our way. It's called the Black Creek Canoe Race, though it's not really a race. A few dozen people in kayaks and canoes w/ coolers of beer paddling down the river. The "race" ends at my friends cabin (which really isn't a cabin LOL ) and we party into the wee hours of the morning, usually camping out. It's one hell of a good time.  ;)

Cindy really paddling was one of yer best memories of our Florida trip ???   I dont know how you can choose.  All of the trip was great.... well mostly (didnt care for the 2 guys at the clothing optional bar in keywest).  I cant choose between them all.... Hangin w/ SJ and Sue, Hanging with Pat and Pappy(including the paddle), staying out til 4:30 am on Duval street, Deep sea fishing with John the local we met(even thou I fed the fishys 4 times), Partying in Gainsville, etc etc.  Ah Memories!  I think I need another trip to FL.
